Bonney Lake is a small town in the Yakima Valley of Washington. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. It is located on the south bank of the Yakima River, east of Interstate 90 and north of Seattle. The area that now makes up Bonney Lake was first settled by the Puyallup people in the late 18th century. In 1854, gold was discovered in what is now Bonney Lake and many settlers came to try to find it. The town grew quickly, and by 1870 there were 1,500 people living here. By 1899, Bonney Lake had become an incorporated city with its own government. During World War II, Bonney Lake played an important role as a military base for the United States Army Air Forces duringthe war years from 1941 to 1945. The post office called itself "Bonney" until 1959 when it became "Lake". In 1957, the city passed a resolution calling for a name change to honor General George Custer who died at Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument near here on July 25, 1865. The name change took place and Bonney lake became Custer City after General Custer's death

In 1851, John Wesley Hill purchased land east of present-day Bonney Lake for $10,000. He built what would become his estate, Hillcrest Park. The community began to grow rapidly and by 1870 it had a post office and school. In 1876, influential citizens gathered to condemn a proposed railroad line through the community which would have served as a major source of income for local farmers. By 1892, all but one block of Hillcrest Park had been developed into single-family homes and businesses; schools continued to be operated in conjunction with nearby Mountlake Terrace Elementary School until 1963 when it became its own independent school district. In 1971, Bonney Lake became part of Seattle City Limits; however its boundaries remain largely unchanged today due to jurisdictional issues between King County and Seattle Township (which includes Bellevue), both entities being part ofSeattle County as well asKingdomofHollywood proper withinSouthern Kings County., As such, most aspects of Bonney Lake's culture survive only in memory or legend - much like many other communities across Western Washington that experienced rapid growth in recent decades without any corresponding change in demographics or social patterns
