Grant commanded Union forces northwest of present-day Bellingham before he reached Seattle en route to Alaska across Elliott Bay; he then marched south through what is now downtown Everett towards Puget Sound where he destroyed many important Confederate supply depots before withdrawing over Snoqualmie Pass into Canada October 16 following an eight-week campaign that ended with 524 killed or missing among 3 million soldiers and 10 thousand civilians engaged in one of history's largest amphibious assaults

On May 15th, 1942 Japanese forces attacked Pearl Harbor resulting in World War II beginning with Japan's attack on Hawaii six days later. The USS Everett (CA-7) responded to provide food and water support for Allied ships off the coast of Vancouver Island before finally departing for Puget Sound that day morning to join her Allies counterparts in strikes against airfields near Midway Islands that afternoon; she reached her destination safely just before nightfall after completing 400 miles-long voyage across open ocean without being sunk or damaged during this time period! This event helped spur development along much of what is now downtown Seattle including Terminal 1 at Safeco Field which saw use as an internment camp during World War II; today it serves as a museum illustrating life in early 20th century Seattle
