The Bellingham Rifle and Pistol Club is a rifle and pistol club located in the city of Bellingham, Washington. The club was founded in 1875 and has been meeting monthly ever since. It is one of the oldest rifle clubs in the United States. The club currently has over 100 members and enjoys using both rifles and pistols for shooting competitions, target competition, educational purposes, and other hunting/target events.

Bellingham was founded in 1792 as a small trading post on the southern shore of Puget Sound. By 1825, it had become the capital of Washington Territory and by 1865, it had become the state of Washington. In 1900, Bellingham became an incorporated city. The population reached 50,000 in 1940 and 100,000 in 1980. The city has since grown to over 150,000 people and is home to several Fortune 500 companies. Bellingham’s rich history can be traced back to its founding when settlers arrived on the area in 1792. At that time Puget Sound was a relatively empty region with few settlement options. The land that would eventually make up Bellingham was first used for hunting and fishing grounds by indigenous tribes before being purchased by Swen Ullrich and his brother-in-law Jacob Franks in 1806. Ullrich named the area “Bellingham” after himself and his son George Washington Ullrich (1754-1828). The original inhabitants of what is now Bellingham were primarily Yakima Nation residents who traveled downriver each year for trade goods with Native Americans from nearby Olympia. In 1825, Oregon Territorial Governor William Hapgood appointed George Vancouver as the first military governor of British Columbia Territory which included parts of present day Seattle and Tacoma also within British Columbia Territory at that time. When Vancouver discovered Puget Sound could not be crossed without becoming lost, he decided to explore what lay beyond Elliott Bay on the southern shore of Lake Washington instead. He ordered his men to build a small fort at Fort Nisqually which served as a base for exploration and trade operations between Vancouver Island and mainland British Columbia until 1827 when he moved the mission headquarters from Nisqually to what is now downtown Seattle due to increasing difficulties crossing Elliott Bay without becoming lost again! In 1850, Spokane resident James Kapp bought land near present day Everett along both banks ofthe Willamette River opposite today’s Pioneer Square – this area became known as Kapptown after him! With access to strategic water resources like those found along Puget Sound, Kapp quickly began developing Bellingham into one of Washinton Territory’s most important commercial centers during this early period. His businesses include The Post Office Savings Bank (now JPMorgan Chase) which opened its doors in 1857; The First National Bank (now Wells Fargo) which opened its doors in 1861; Masonic Temple #1 (now Renfrew Community College) built in 1865; Thalmann Bros Clothing Store #2 (now Macy’s), built in 1870; Jardine & Hastings Brewery (later King County Brewing Co.)opened their doors in 1872;and finally The Everett Lumber Company building #1 constructed1875! These businesses continue up through today with notable successors such as Amazon Web Services locating its North American Headquarters here beginning in 1997! Today there are more than 190 businesses operating within close proximity to each other makingBelligham one of Northwest America's most vibrant cities! In 1851, Bellingham was founded as a small trading post on Puget Sound. The town grew rapidly and by 1875, it had become an important seaport with a population of over 1,000 people. In 1907, the city was renamed Seattle after Chief Sealth of the Duwamish tribe.
