Bellevue is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 17,521 at the 2010 census. Bellevue is located on the eastern edge of Seattle and is bounded by Puget Sound to the west and north, Interstate 5 to the east and south, and Lake Union to the southeast. The town's name derived from English place names such as Beaconsfield Manor (now part of Seattle), White Sands Ranch (now part of Everett), Horseshoe Bend (now part of Redmond) and Islay Heights Estates (now part of Woodinville). By 1907 Bellevue had a population over 10,000 people; however most growth took place outside its boundaries until after World War II when new housing developments began dotting Bellevue's periphery. During their time in office as Mayor & Councilmember Charles Carlson (1948-1957) & Councilmember Don Bowman (1957-1966), both men were instrumental in creating many key aspects that characterize today's BellevUE: cultural institutions like The Neptune Theatre Company; transportation systems like Interstate 5/Pike Place Market Square; parks like Pioneer Park; housing developments such as Riverfront Drive; professional sports teams such as the Sounders FC soccer team; high school districts such as Lynden High School & Roosevelt High School; etc.; all while ensuring that these developments would not impact or conflict with neighboring communities' land uses or services.[1] One example during Carlson's tenure that will be remembered forever is his decision to close Northgate Elementary School due to budget cuts – this despite pleas from parents who wanted their children able to attend a nearby public school[2]. Today there are more than 20 elementary schools within a mile radius of either downtown or Riverfront Drive depending on which way you look – making it one municipality with comprehensive education options for everyone! One thing that has continually been strong throughout all these years is community spirit - something that can be seen throughout every aspect of life here including nightlife programming at venues like Avalon nightclub or active involvement in local organizations like Montessori Children’s Center or American Legion Post #264[3]. It isn't just what happens on street corners but also within our own homes where we continue building relationships through things like cooking demos together at our housewarming party or going out for coffee afterwards[4].
