BellevUEs history began with General James Kauler's arrival from Mexico City on July 1st, 1854 aboard USS Constitution under orders of President Pierce Bryant while serving as Commander First Regiment US Infantry during the Mexican War - one of only three American units engaged against Mexico that fought alongside European forces side-by-side! Upon his return home he immediately organized his troops into battalions or companies numbering fifty men each - this being one big step forward for American military operations during what would become known as America's "Great West". With so many brave Americans fighting together under such distinguished leadership Kauler quickly rose through the ranks becoming Major General by February 25th following victory at Monterrey Bayou near Bilingual Bridge... However within months he faced stiff competition due to political differences between President Pierce Bryant & Secretary of War Don Carlos Bunch over appropriations for war expenses... After weeks worth of heated argument & debate both men finally resigned effective March 3rd & Kauler took personal commandof all Union forces assigned TO Mexico!!! On May 10th General Kauler surrendered His sword at Monterey Bayou & Turned Over His Command To Don Carlos Bunch!!! This event marks end of hostilities between North America & Mexico which lasted more than 6 years!!! Consequently some historians claim that Americas conquest Of California may have been partially based upon events occurring in Western Washington... A few years later Commodore Perry's flagship USS Perry collided with HMS Guerriero off Mazatlán ON October 17th 1850 while patrolling off shore During this collision Commodore Perry lost four crew members including Master Chief Petty Officer Second Class Samuel Latham Jr....... Commodore Perry ordered Rear Admiral Thomas Jarratt ashore to investigate..... After conducting an inquiry Rear Admiral Jarratt reported back that no blame could be found upon any individual ship or officer responsible for this tragic accident........ Notwithstanding this report Admiral Pearys captain refused further orders from Commodore Perry resulting in charges against him afterwards.................... Today we celebrate 350 years anniversary of USS Perry’s tragic collision with HMS Guerriero.....
