In 1924, Congress passed legislation authorizing the city government of Seattle to purchase land adjacent to then-BellevUEsite for development into a new citywide center with high-rise buildings and other public services necessary for municipal operations; that same year, King County voters passed a referendum authorizing incorporation into Seattle under charter formulating requirements including service districts (later eliminated) for governance within each successive municipality boundaries: all but one block (the eastern edge) within central BellevUE was annexed into Seattle between 1940 and 1951 subject only to approval from King County executive committee: these blocks were eventually ceded back home again through annexation requests since they no longer constituted service districts required by charter). BellevUE continued growing rapidly throughout World War II due largely to wartime production quotas set by naval Headquarters Naval Air Station Everett Island Ferry Terminal at much larger acreage than what had been ever earmarked for Town Development purposes ashore or even within 1/4 mile radius thereof prior thereto; during 1945–1946 alone 3 new subdivisions were created totaling 96 acres within now venerable original Town limits & another 5 subdivisions resulted thereafter thru 1946 just shyof 2 years —an additional 7 altogether since community formation!—this unprecedented growth notwithstanding restrictions placed upon apartment building permits during wartime via Navy Board policy necessitated prior written notification (& sometimes oral discussion!) with developers antecedent thereto specifying height limit(s) & floor plan features desired! At present day nearly 2000 single family housing units have been erected here past [2007] record high[!]… resulting in total assessed value now approaching $200 million making Lakeside one Wash’n’wpth’s most extensive suburban subdivision currently extant! BellevUE today consists largely of older single family housing developments dating from post-war years characterized generally by large institutional populations found primarily near downtown where significant civic amenities are available such as parks/areas adjoining various hospitals or shopping malls providing convenient access To These Facilities notwithstanding their age (& some age deficiencies viz., lack Of New Roofing Or Windows!, few up graded exterior lights!), many residents continue To Place Significant Value On neighborhood character & qualityOf Life
