Bellevue, Wash. is a city in the U.S. state of Washington and the county seat of King County. The population was 523 at the 2010 census, down from 559 in 2000. Bellevue is one of a few large metropolitan areas in the United States with a population over 1 million people. It is located on Puget Sound, bordered by Seattle to the north and east, Redmond to the south and west, and Kirkland to the northwest; it covers an area of 344 square miles (885 km2). The first European settlers arrived in 1792 when John Jacob Astor set out from Bothell on his ship "Pioneer" with eight others including his brother-in-law Peter Puget and two other brothers, George Vancouver and James Cook. He named his new home "Bellevue" after Prince Maximilian of Hesse-Darmstadt who had come over as explorer for Spain in 1789 while exploring North America via Juan de Fuca Strait. Over time Bellevue became part of King County which formed on February 14, 1851 when Territorial Legislature approved annexation bySeattle Bellevue's current location was chosen because it offered easy access to water resources such as Lake Union and Seattle shoreline while still being close enough to town that residents could visit each other regularly without having to leave their homes. The original plat for Bellevue included 10 blocks covering what are now third Avenue South through First Avenue South NE., Fourth Avenue NE., Tenth Avenue NE., Mercer Street NW., Hawthorne Boulevard SW., Eastlake Drive SE,, Park Drive SE(), Pioneer Square Sq.(now University Village) The railroads reached Bellevue by way of Newcastle (present day Everett), then Everett Junction where cars would cross State Route 2B onto tracks running northeast towards Tacoma before turning southeast towards Olympia

Bellevue is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 487 at the 2010 census. Bellevue is part of the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is one of two cities in King County that are both considered suburban and have a Combined Statistical Areas (CSA) size greater than 1 million people. Bellevue has been called the "Gateway to the North" because it is located on Interstate 5 and close to major airports including Seattle–Tacoma International Airport and Vancouver International Airport. The first Europeans to sight what would become Bellevue were Russian traders who arrived in 1853 when they sailed down the Pacific Northwest Coast looking for new trade routes. Captain John Denny's ship, Discovery, landed on December 29, 1853 at what today is Harbor Point on Puget Sound near present day Bellevue Boulevard and First Avenue South. The discovery of gold ore on November 3, 1859 by prospectors led to an influx of settlers into what would become Bellevue from various parts of British Columbia and Canada during that decade. By 1860 there were ninety residents living in what would be called "the village". In 1865 a post office was established at Harbor Point with three stores and six homes; this became known as "Bellevue". A millinery shop was started by Mrs. Elizabeth Fenton in 1872, followed by a grocery store in 1875; these businesses became amalgamated into one company under the name Eckerd & Company in 1886 when their founder Julius Ecker died intestate after leaving his US$10 million estate to his four daughters alone. In 1889 James Hutton purchased land west of downtownSeattle from Moses Lake College for $2,000 which he named Hutton Park after himself and his friend Alexander Graham Bell (later Sir Alexander Graham Bell). He soon began developing this land into a streetcar suburb called South Park with its own market square as well as residences for himself/his family and employees along First Avenue South from Pioneer Road eastward through now Terminal Field northward until it met up with Westminster Road south of I-5 near Present day NE 81st Street east side then turned southeast towards Highway 520 where it met up with Centurylink Way SE before continuing northeast to meet up with Morrison Rd where it crossed I-5 just north of Mercer Island before turning southeast towards Elliott Bayou northwest of Capitol Hill Cemetery before intersecting SWshoreline Drive northeast of today's Navy Yard across Elliott Bayou from Yesler Terrace housing developments adjacent to University Village shopping center southwest corner now home to Safeway supermarket As early as 1888 Hutton had plans for artificial lakes fed byagricultural runoff which he dubbed Lakes Washington & Jefferson (W&J). Bellevue is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 17,878 at the 2010 census. Bellevue was founded in 1851 as a small town on the east side of Lake Union. It grew rapidly during the late 19th century and became one of Seattle's most important commercial districts. After World War II, Bellevue began to decline as its economy shifted towards services and technology jobs.
