Bellevue is also home to several businesses that support local government - such as City Hall and Parks Department - as well as several schools including Lakeside Elementary School, Wenatchee High School, Northwest Community College (now Northwest Community University), Eastern Christian School, Stonington Valley Middle School, CenturyLink Field District No. 2 & 3 Soccer Complex (now King's Canyon Soccer Complex) and numerous churches - most notably First Baptist Church which was built in 1888
Bellevue was founded in 1881 by wealthy landowner and community leader Cornelius Vanderbilt. The city grew rapidly during the late 1800s, and by 1907 Bellevue had a population of over 100,000. In 1916 Bellevue joined thecity of Seattle as an independent municipality. The city experienced rapid growth during World War II, with its population reaching 300,000 in 1945. However, after the war Bellevue slowly declined until it reached its current size in 2000.
