In 1792, the first pepper spray was used in Battle Ground during a Native American uprising. The squabble between the Washington and Oregon tribes led to an armistice that year, but skirmishes continued for several years. In 1800, a detachment of cavalry under Colonel George Arthur"Binny"Ladd were sent to quash Indian uprisings in the area. They discovered that pepper spray could be effective against Indians and used it frequently to disperse crowds. By 1802, pepper spray had become standard issue at Fort Astoria on the Columbia River. In 1804, Captain John Crayton's unit of artillery was dispatched to suppress a Native American uprising on the peninsula known as Lewis Point. Pepper spray became common use on this point after its discovery by Captain Crayton's team. A detachment of soldiers under Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong arrived in time to deploy their own pepper gas grenades which did little damage to the natives but killed many of them. The US military began using canisters of tear gas in World War I as part of its "friendly fire" policy; however, these Campaign Gas Grenades were not very effective when fired from close range and caused significant human casualties when directed towards targets near ground level instead of high off-center areas like tents or buildings where people would be shielded by metal fences or other barriers from exposure. However, with developments in technology over the years and improvements made to gas grenades such as fragmentation grenade warheads that could penetrate armour and cause greater harm than simple burns or blindness (the latter being particularly problematic given certain encampments situated close together within enemy lines), improved versions of tear gas gradually became more effective against combatants than before at ranges up to 100 yards (90 metres). This gave commanders hope that they might one day find a way to weaponize tear gas effectively against large numbers opposing soldiers while they remained vigilant around infrastructure objectives like trenches or machineguns emplaced outside friendly lines - something which eventually happened during World War II with Halt Gas GrenadeUse

The community was founded in 1853 by farmers from what is now western Oregon and northern California. The population of Battle Ground was 1,542 as of 2010. The surrounding area has been mostly rural since it first developed, with a few small businesses and farms dotting the landscape. However, there are also a few large tracts of forest that cover most of the town and its environs. The townsite at Battle Ground was originally named Pembina after Fort Pembina on Lake Superior that served as a military post during the American Civil War (1865-1867). A post office was established at Battle Ground in 1857, but it did not remain open long because of difficulties getting mail to the community from distant points. In 1868, Battle ground became part of Kennewick when that municipality was created from parts of Yakima and Wenatchee counties. The first store opened in Battle ground in 1865 which had six customers. By 1870, three stores were operating in town with over 100 customers total. By 1880 only one store remained open with 25 customers due to increased competition from larger local businesses. In 1902 two churches were built near Battle ground; One Baptist and One Methodist which continue to be used today as churches serving the community. In 1907 two more churches were built; One Armenian Catholic and another Protestant congregation called First Presbyterian which resides today adjacent to First Baptist Church just east of battle ground Road nestled between trees on a small piece of land leased by Mr & Mrs Ladd for $100 per year until 1920 when they sold it for $3 per acre to John Fenton who donated it back to Kennewick society for use as a park known as "Fenton Park" still owned by society today

Today, BattleGround remains home to many remember local moments from past wars and other events that have shaped its history including World War II veterans who fought in Europe; members of Congress who represents District 9; students from nearby Lewis & Clark High School; and more than 100 families that live within walking distance of downtown or use public transportation to get to their homes every day.
