Battle Ground is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. The Battle Ground post office opened on December 12, 1851, and was discontinued on March 15, 1959. The site of Battle Ground is located near the present-day town of Auburn and the former village of North Battle Ground. In 1792 British soldiers under Lt Colonel John Graves Simcoe were hunting in what is now King County when they came upon Indian camps near modern day Auburn. Simcoe decided to burn down one of the encampments but instead attacked and killed all 20 Native American leaders including their chiefs who had been sheltering there. This event is known as "The Night Of The Long Knives". In 1851, General George A. Steuart's Union army invaded Washington Territory from Oregon while Lieutenant Colonel John Crain led an detachment from Fort Vancouver westward to survey the location for a future military post that would be named Fort Steuart after General Steuart's subordinate officer in the war. On December 12th, 1851, Battle ground Post Office opened with Messrs Wm Higginson (postmaster) & Pte Haggerty serving as Officers As settlers arrived in numbers to start farming around what would become Battle Ground they began traveling east up Coal Creek which later became Sherman Road today’s Green Lake Road leading into town from Bothell just north of Interstate 5 where it intersects State Route 99 . Many people traveled by stagecoach down Green LakeRoad until it became too difficult & dangerous for horses so motor vehicles began arriving in droves starting with cars by 1926 !! Battle ground was platted on February 7th 1861 by Jno Sneath with lots starting at $5 per acre payable within 10 days or you could purchase 640 acres at $15 per acre ! At this time there were only 4 stores open locally viz Carpenter’s store built on lot #2 next to current day School House ex “Nancy” school started 1865 also called Arbuckle store then Bennett’s Hardware store then property leased out to Mrs Harding in 1914 . By 1870 most residents were farmers dependent on raising barns for trade goods brought overland via steamboats either upriver or across Coal creek On October 1st 1880 issue of territorial newspapers Territorial Gazette gives first mention of watermelon being grown hereabouts

British forces were defending Boston against an American landing force led by colonial General George Washington. In the morning of April 14th, a combined American and British army attacked from two directions, overwhelming the defenders. The British withdrew and never again attempted to retake Boston.
