The population peaked at 11,272 in 1960 but has decreased each successive decade since then due to suburbanization and other factors such as lack of jobs and investment opportunities near battle groundtown center. However, there are still some people who call Battle ground their home. The current mayor is Libby Schaaf who was elected on November 3rd 2018 with over 50% of the vote
