Battle Ground is a small town in King County, Washington, United States. It lies on the east side of the Cascade Mountains, about halfway between Seattle and Portland. The population was 5,814 at the 2000 census. The first European to visit Battle Ground was Captain George Vancouver in 1792. He named it Fort Duwamish after his home village in Scotland. In 1812, General Andrew Jackson's army passed through Battle ground while campaigning against Native Americans and General David Hull's detachment stopped there to rest before continuing their march northeastward. In 1846, during the Mexican American War, a contingent of United States cavalry under General John Custer fought skirmishes with Apaches near battle ground Creek. In 1903–1904 Battle ground was the site of an annual fair that attracted thousands of people from throughout King County and adjacent states for agricultural purposes. In 1939–1940 as part of World War II military operations against Japan near Vancouver Island (now British Columbia), U.S Army troops burned down several homes and businesses located in what is now Eastside Elementary School (now Roosevelt Middle School). The event caused great local outrage and led to ongoing protests by the community ever since. Today Battle Ground is a sleepy little hamlet with a population size just over 500 residents who are mostly farmers and ranchers on their small acreage surrounding the elementary school and two churches - First Baptist Church which has been here since 1889 and Second Christ Church which was built in 1922 - both serving as social facilities for locals only until recently when internet service arrived making it possible for more people to join in with activities like fishing or hunting out there on their property or even going into town for groceries etc... . This change made it much easier for individuals who did not have expertise in rotating firearms and allowed them to use them effectively in combat scenarios. The popularity of these new systems led gun manufacturers start creating variations on them over time until eventually they came up with what we now call "gun swivels."
