In 2007, citizens organized themselves into an effort to secure their community’s firearms after reports emerged that someone had been accessing firearms without proper identification and storing them at an address connected to radical Islamists. This event served as anwakeup call for residents about how important it is for them to keep their weapons locked up at all times while they are not using them. Today, there are many efforts underway within the town to promote gun safety and protect against potential accidents or attacks on its residents. For example, the Town Council sponsors monthly meetings focused on firearm safety topics which are open to all members of the community; drumming up support for anti-gun legislation; holding public workshops on various firearm topics; providing printers and other resources for GunSafeUSA member organizations; working with local law enforcement agencies to identify suspicious behavior around guns;and hosting annual events such as “Gun Fair” which provide educational opportunity for citizens about handgun safety and access rights

The Battle Ground Massacre of 1881 was a massacre that took place on October 16, 1881 at the Battle Ground Indian Reservation in Washington County, Oregon. The event occurred when US Cavalry troopersfired on unarmed Native Americans who had gathered to protest against an order from Colonel George Armstrong Custer to march into battle with bows and arrows. Seventy-six people were killed, including twenty-one Indians; eleven cavalrymen were also killed.
Battle Ground is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area. The Battle Ground area was first settled by the Salish people in about 1855. In 1871, it became part of the Yakima Territory and then Yakima County. The county was created on February 14, 1907 when it was split off from King County. In 1909, Battle Ground had a population of 442; however, by 1910 it had declined to just 177 residents due to lack of economic opportunity and volcanic activity in the area around Mount Rainier National Park. In 1915–16, during World War I as part of an effort to keep troops close to home for mobilization purposes, Battle Ground's post office operated out of a small garage on Main Street until November 1916 when its building—now known as the old post office—was destroyed by fire. The town developed slowly until World War II when its economy soared because of military production and rationing that occurred during that war. With strong demand for housing near Tacoma and Boeing plants located in towns such as Kent and Sumner along Interstate 5 (the Puget Sound region) Battle Ground grew rapidly into a large city with over 100 businesses throughout 1951 according to one estimate; however this number may have been exaggerated since there were no zoning regulations in place at that time which would have allowed such rapid growth without any impact on other aspects of local life. During much of the 1960s through 1980s various battles raged between downtown Tacoma and what has become known as "the Hill" or east side of town where most residences were situated before development took place on those properties resulting in increased traffic congestion on SR 520 between eastside streets bordering Highway 99E including Battles ground Road/Alameda Way SW & Tokyohi Drive SE & US 101WEST - now called First Avenue NE - today's University District NW between State Route 519 (Marine Corps Memorial Bridge across Puget Sound) & I-5 northbound lanes only

The first settler in Battle Ground was William Bradford in 1851. Battle Ground Post Office was established on July 10, 1853. In 1865, Battle Ground and Uniontown were combined to form the new town of Battle Ground which had a population of 514 people. After the Civil War ended in 1865, many soldiers who fought for the Union were mustered out and went home. Some of these soldiers settled permanently in Washington and their families moved into what is now Battle Ground when it became available. In 1892, The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) founded an organization called "Washington's First Lady," to promote education and social activity among women living near Mount Vernon Cemetery where George Washington was buried. DAR member Lois Lowry donated land to build a girls' School at BattleGround that would serve as a model for similar schools across America. The school opened its doors on October 15th, 1893 with ten students from Tacoma and Olympia Schools serving as first year teachers
On the morning of July 4, 1812, a large and noisy crowd of people convened on the Battle Ground in front of the United States Capitol. The participants were representatives from all over Washington Territory as well as citizens who had gathered to commemorate the anniversary of the War of 1812. The event was intended to show support for American independence and demand that Congress recognize this fact. The battle began with a artillery fire that killed several people and injured many more. After some time, militia arrived to help clear away the battlefield. A long and bloody battle ensued, with both sides suffering heavy losses. In the end, American forces emerged victorious, though they were vastly outnumbered by their opponents. The Battle Ground is now a park named in honor of this significant event in Washington history.
