Battle Ground is a town in Washington County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,531 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Portland-Vancouver-Hillsboro, OR-WA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settlement in what is now Battle Ground was by Lewis and Clark Expedition on July 12, 1807. They named their new settlement "Cape Disappointment" after an overlook they had seen on their way south from the Columbia River valley. In 1851, Battle ground School District #1 was organized with a schoolhouse built near the present day cemetery. In 1902 Battle Ground School District #2 was formed and another building was erected at the current site of Main Street. In 1916 a post office called Battle Ground was established; it remained in operation until 1959. The community acquired its name from battle ground Road which ran through it. On November 6th 1922 local ranchers Clyde and Lillie Henson donated land to the town for a park that would become known as Henson Park today. This donation included six acres of prairie which later became Forest Park (now part of Morrison State Wildlife Refuge). On December 15th 1924 Battle Ground's first football game againstOregon Wesleyan College resulted in a 0-0 tie thanks to goals by both teams' visiting goalkeepers only minutes apart during halftime! The next year saw BC win their first game ever against Willamette University 7-3 before losing to OSU 7-3 again two years later! In 1930 BC's first soccer team played Northwest Missouri State University where they lost 3-1 following an exciting match full of highlight reel saves by both players including one golden goal! From there on BC steadily improved results finishing second twice (1934 & 1938) before becoming champions for the third time in 1951 defeating Whitman 9–0!! Their fourth title came in 1957 when they defeated Multnomah County 8–1 though this score may not be exact becauseMultnomah county had more players than BC did!BC then faced Washington County rival Salem where they were leading 2−0 late in regulation but failed to score any goals en route to winning 4−2 Although this loss does not include BC's famous forfeit case against Portland rivals Holgate High school which led to Holgate being banned from all future high school sports!!! After these seasons he stepped down as head coach but still remains very involved with club/school activities however his son currently leads the coaching staff at nearby Beechmont High School

In 1960, the community voted to incorporate as a village and remain unincorporated until 2001 when it officially changed its name to Battle Ground Village Inc.
