Bainbridge Island, Washington is a small town in Puget Sound, located on the northeast coast of Seattle. The area was first settled by the Duwamish people in the early 1800s. In 1902, Bainbridge Island became part of the City of Seattle. The population grew rapidly after World War II, and by 1970, Bainbridge Island had become one of Seattle's most populous neighborhoods. The city experienced rapid growth and development during the late 1960s and 1970s as a result of its role as an anchor for Boeing Company's operations in North America. This growth led to increased congestion on Mercer Street and other arterial streets in downtown Seattle. In response to this problem, Mayor Gary Locke decided to develop what would become known as "The Borgata" district which included parts of downtownSeattle east of Main Street. The Borgata district was intended to be an upscale mall with high-end restaurants, nightlife, and shopping opportunities for commuters who lived near Interstate 5 or Interstate 90. Despite initial plans for a large park complex called "The Borgata", it never materialized due to financial constraintsimposed by city officials at that time. Instead, the park was developed into what is now nicknamed "The Inner Harbor" because it sits adjacent to Lake Union/King County Waterfront Park which has been used as a public swimming pool since 1912 and is also home to several large office buildings including Amazon Web Services' campus headquarters."

In 1951, Interstate 5 was built through much of northwest Seattle; because most residents continued to reside on or near downtownSeattle, few people realized that Bainbridge Island had been lost until after it opened up for traffic in 1966. In 1976–77 when Boeing started construction on its new Everett factory site adjacent to I-5 south of downtownSeattle (now known as Bellevue), many workers who would have access to Everett needed to commute into town for work purposes; as a result, there was significant development not just on Bellevue but also around nearby Highway 99W which connected Everett with downtownSeattle via ramps east and west from I-5/Bellevue airport (now SeaTac Airport). This highway corridor has since been reclassified King County Route 99W as part of the expanded arterial system connectingSEA with CenterCity(southwest Tacoma) via Evergreen Road/Interstate 591A). As Boeing's company size increased over time—it moved out its original Everett manufacturing operation ontoQFC land south of Redmond—so too did commuting needs withinKing County: State Route 904 links SEA with Olympia via SR 904P while SR 410 provides access from QFC land across Lake Washington to farmlands northeast and southwest of Kirkland Lake before terminating at SR 520E which connects KirklandLake directly with SEA (and finally Yelm City through Bellevue). On May 30th, 1915, President Woodrow Wilson designated Bainbridge Island as a national recreational area which has continued to be used by both citizens and government agencies ever since then including: National Park Service (NPS), Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS), Washington State Patrol (WSP), University of Puget Sound Department Of Marine Science (ASM) & Western Research Institute (WRI). Today’s community with its mix of civilian and governmental users comes from when landowner John Pritzker purchased 5 acres from the federal government for $1 in 1901 along with other adjacent property which included: Narrows Strait beach access; Point Defiance Naval Shipyard; extensive forestry/fishing resources; and high quality limestone cliffs – now home to more than 350 dwellings spread over an area just over 1/4 square mile including: 4 elementary schools; 3 middle schools; 2 high schools; 10 businesses including 7 restaurants/bars/stores; 5 parks comprising 14 acres administered by City Of Seattle Parks & Recreation Department while also containing: 9 historical sites listed on National Register OF Historic Places while still others are under consideration such as a new hospital planned for future use on nearby Discovery Bay The first permanent settler on Bainbridge Island was Nicholas Slocum who landed there with his family in 1824 during his exploration trip led by Capt John Denny Jr.. After spending two years exploring Elliott Bay they sailed back upriver to New Britain where they built their log cabin before sailing back down river again in 1830 under Capt James Cook . Slocum's wife died soon after childbirth so he never saw her again but her husband left behind children - Anna Maria who married USS sidewinder pilot Lt Samuel Eliot Morison ; Nicholas Slocum Jr., Captain Daniel Stowell , Samuel Eliot Morison II In 1854 David Darling arrived aboard USS Constitution skippered by Commodore James Fife After landing here he explored Elliott Bay before sailing back upriver Heezus Creek towards Wallula Inlet where he found freshwater fish suitable for cooking ashore but no fresh water could be obtained upstream owing to rapids This led him ashore at point today known as Drake Landing where he began building himself a cabin which would become his home until his death four years later Dutchman Netherlands Hendrik Vanderbrugh landed at Drake Landing circa 1796 after shipwrecking off coastof British Columbia Heading northwest bound discovered sound system called Dolphin Harbour then anchored offshore due south towards current day Yelm Harborafter refueling stopped night set fire to shoreline destroyed all suppliesand made landfall next morningfound stranded without food or drinkable water inside harbour& eventually died from exposure& cold weeks onboard ship had severe consequences for people living near harbor& local economy
