On February 9, 1902, the Auburn Improvement District was organized. On November 18 of that year, the first enlargement of the community was approved and $5,000 was allocated for a school. A frame building was erected on Main Street in 1903. The school district grew rapidly and by 1907 it had an elementary school, a high school and a technical high school. The town annexed to the city of Auburn on July 1, 1927. In 1938 a new courthouse was built on First Avenue in Auburn and named after Judge John Leland Butler. The old courthouse burned down in 1951. An annex to the city of Seattle was approved on November 15, 1941 and $10,000 was set aside for highway improvements in the area around town including widening of First Avenue from two lanes to four lanes and realignment of State Route 99W which ran through town between Bellevue Road and Interstate 5E. Three years later an agreement was reached with King County to build a new county jail in town which would cost $25,000 dollars although no plans were ever made to actually use it until 2003 when construction began on the current jail facility located at 122 N Broadway

The city also features one of few music venues in WA before it closed its doors in 2016 due to financial difficulties from attendance declines and overspending on tour support for bands like Pearl Jam and Soundgarden which played at CenturyLink Field in nearby Seattle during their calls to action tours there during those years Auburn’s history can be traced back to 1835 when Swedes and Danes landed onshore after departing Discovery Bay on board HMS "Eagle" following a voyage from Copenhagen; they named their new colony “Auburn” after the home city of King Gustav IV Adolf of Sweden (1746-1825). Over time, other groups arrived including Englishmen who founded Anacortes (later Tacoma) between 1851-1853; Germans who settled around Port Orchard between 1898-1902; Japanese who took up land near present day Renton sometime between 1915-1920; Russians who moved downriver from Walla Walla under auspices of American President Theodore Roosevelt as part of his Great Lakes Colony program/Operation Cold Fire – all contributing members helping build what would eventually become Auburn today Danish immigrants brought potatoes, cattle, wheat, appleseed oilseed rape (a type of rapeseed), cider vinegar or applejack while Russian immigrants brought horses, tractors, railsroads etc., forming what would later become Russetown The community held its first meeting on August 3rd 1835 with 30 people present including 10 Swedes/Danes/Englishmen/Germans/JapaneseNote: This date has been incorrectly reported as August 2nd many times throughout history so we have changed it hereto avoid confusion In November 1840 post office was established at Auburn with 1 letter per family By 1860 there were already 100 families living here with 5 schools & 50 churches affiliated There was no water available until 1862 when spring water came through USFS stream north from Lake Union . By 1870 all fields had been plowed & crops grown but school students still walked to school along main road abovecurrent location now called Pioneer Road
