AUBURN, Wash. (KREM) - Firearms have been a part of the local community and culture in Auburn for centuries. The first guns were used by Native Americans to hunt deer, coyotes, and other animals. In 1885, Washington County passed an act that banned handguns within the county limits. This law was repealed in 1911. Firearms became more common in Auburn as it became a center for agriculture and cattle ranching. Ammunition shops began to open up in the town during World War I to provide needed supplies for the war effort. From 1907-1914, firearms were also required to be registered with the state of Washington. In 1933, the U.S. Congress passed the National Rifle Association's (NRA) National Firearms Act which provided federal funding to states to regulate firearm ownership and sale. The NRA argued that this law would protect Second Amendment rights of gun owners and prevent terrorist attacks on national soil from happening. In 1934, Washington County passed an act that granted concealed handgun permits to residents who had completed a background check and showed proof of military service or hunting experience dating back at least five years before applying for a permit. The early days of firearms regulation in Washington County were difficult because there was no central authority overseeing firearm sales or registration across all of the county seats like there is today with state governments responsible for these functions . Regulations changed frequently due to political turmoil and changing public opinion about firearms safety . Between 1935-1968, only two rounds per day were allowed at firing ranges statewide while rifles could be fired “simply” with one round per minute at most These limitations led to many people being unable or unwilling to learn howTo shoot effectively with their own weapons . As times changed so did ammunition availability; however , modern sporting shotgun ammo is not available until after 4 p m est each day on average in Oregon

Auburn, Washington is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metropolitan area. Auburn is on U.S. Route 97 and Interstate 5, east of Bellevue and west of Tacoma. The town was first founded in 1853 by farmers from New England who set up a homestead on the site of present-day Auburn Hills; their families continued to live there for many years after that. In 1881, when Puget Sound Railway construction began through King County, the farmers subdivided their land and built roads and pipelines to serve their new homes; as a result, they developed one of the most active commercial areas in Western Washington during that period. In 1907, lumberman John Ladd moved his sawmill from Issaquah to Auburn; it became one of the largest employers in town until it closed in 1978 due to economic factors. In 1954, local students founded an all-girls high school which remains open today (Auburn High School). The community has also played a significant role in developing other local businesses such as Microsoft’s Redmond campus (founded 1959) and Boeing’s Seattle Assembly Plant (opened 1973). Today's downtown business district is home to several large chains—Jamba Juice (1971), Starbucks (1991), KFC (2005)—as well as small shops and restaurants including Moe’s BBQ & Fried Chicken(1986), China Bistro(1988), Pie Face Pizza(1986), locally owned grocery stores like Safeway/Grocery Outlet(1997) and 4-time winner Jiffy Lube.(1985). Downtown also contains two professional sports teams: The Seahawks (NFL team) playing their home games at CenturyLink Field between 2002–present and the Huskies football team playing at Husky Stadium since 1923
In 1868, William Henry Steckendorff designed and produced the first commercially successful firearms using a design that he called the "Steckendorff Gun." This weapon was a smoothbore muzzleloader with a revolving barrel. It had been developed in Germany and it became extremely popular in Europe during the 1870s. In 1892, the American Firearms Manufacturing Company introduced its own version of this weapon, which was dubbed the .45 Colt. The .45 Colt became very popular and it was eventually adopted by most law enforcement agencies throughout America. In 1919, President Wilson signed legislation creating the National Firearms Act which prohibited any person from owning or possess any firearm without a license from an federally licensed gun dealer. This act helped to prohibition handguns in America and it remains one of the most renowned handgun laws in history.
On July 14, 1903, the first modern American handgun was patented by George Stephenson. The revolver was called the Colt 1851 and it fired a new type of cartridge that was developed by John Browning.
