The original courthouse at Arlington Court House was completed in 1795 but it served only as a temporary meeting place until a permanent building could be erected. The new courthouse was built on Land grant that James Kapplin received from King George III in 1791. After serving briefly as an prison during the War of 1812 it became the court house again which remained until 1935 when it was replaced by the current structure which has been dedicated on November 14th each year since 1935 by then-President Franklin D. Roosevelt who also attended its dedication ceremony along with then-Vice President Henry Wallace
