Arlington, Washington is home to the Arlington National Cemetery and one of the largest gun parts history collections in the United States. In 1871, Arlington County was created from part of Washington Territory. The county seat of Arlington was first established in 1882 when the town of Fairfax became a borough within Arlington County. In 1924, the town of Alexandria became a city and Arlington County continued to be its sole county seat. On July 1, 1989, Arlington County consolidated with Prince George's County to form a new metropolitan area with a population of over 2 million people.
