Arlington, Washington is a census-designated place in the King County metropolitan area of Seattle, Washington. The population was 6,871 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Seattle and is bordered by Northgate to the north and east, Ballard to the south and west, Mercer Island to the northwest, and Lake Union to the southeast. The first white person known to inhabit Arlington was James Robertson in 1847 when he set up a small farm near what is now Uptown Park. By 1870 Arlington had become part of King County; it was annexed by Seattle in 1907. At that time Arlington's largest town center consisted of only two blocks long along Third Avenue South from Superior Street eastward. A new downtown shopping district called Center District was developed between Second Avenue South and Fifth Street south of Interstate 5 in 1958. The original development plan called for an additional block on First Avenue South between Superior Street and Federal Way Boulevard but this proposal also failed to gain approval from city leaders. In 1961 Bellevue became one of three cities withinKing County which received annexation intoSeattle; Bellevue would eventually form its own city government with a population over 100,000 people as well as becoming home to Everett Football Stadium (now CenturyLink Field) which opened in 1962. In 1970 Arlington annexd Westlake Village which would later merge with Bellevue into Arlington proper; both communities continue to exist today as separate municipalities with their own police departments etc.. In 1977 voters approved Measure S creating an Urban Growth boundary around Downtown Seattle including most ofarerlington extending all the way down University Way SW beyond Pioneer Square towards Lynnwood urther annexing parcels until 1990 when City Limits were established including almost all presentday Arlington parcels giving it final boundaries constituting 2 square miles . Finally annexation proposals from Redmond/Everett were successful resulting in incorporation on February 15th 1999). As Puget Sound grew increasingly urbanized throughout much of King County values shifted towards more dense development along arterial streets instead of rural or suburban routes which may have contributed to some reluctance among locals for annexation into larger cities such as Bellevue or Tacoma despite having similar economic opportunities and access to popular public transportation systems like buses/taxis etc.. However these suburbs generally lacked character or flavor compared with older neighborhoods situated near inner city cores such as Ballard or Everett while still being able to enjoy many amenities available closer out like parks/ mountains etc.. This trend seems likely To continue given recent developments adjacentto DowntownSeattle including land acquisition projects for large office buildings/condos etc... leaving smaller towns difficult if not impossible prospects for growth apart from special events & trade shows hosted at nearby stadiums

The boundary between Washington Territory and Mexican territory was not easily drawn and so the two parts had different boundaries until 1912 when they merged into one new country, Mexico.
