Arlington is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area. The name Arlington has been used by various places in the region since at least 1855. In that year, a group of settlers from Prince George's County, Maryland, arrived in what is now Arlington and developed a small community around their farmstead called "The Oaks." The first permanent settler in what is now Arlington was James H. Baker who migrated to the area from Kentucky on May 11, 1855. He purchased 160 acres of land comprising present day Arlington from John Pope and other early settlers. Mr. Baker built his house on what are today Broadway and Fairfax Streets and named it "Baker's Grove." By 1861, A&P grocery store had opened in nearby Tacoma making Arlington one of the most heavily populated areas outside of Baltimore/Washington D.C..
