In 1853, Puget Sound earthquake created serious damage to churches and homes in Anacortes; however no loss of life resulted. The first streetcar service ran from downtown Tacoma to Olympia on November 1, 1896 as part of the North Western Railway's system extension from Tacoma to Everett via Olympia. On February 14, 1907, King County started operating its own electric streetcar service when it merged with the local telephone company Puget Telephone Company Limited into Pacific Telesis Corporation On May 4th 1909 an event marking 100 years since First White settlement took place at shoreline near where’s now known as Pioneer Park occurred when 301 pioneer articles were burned off Point Defiance Bayou for Coast Guard Memorial Service
