After becoming the capital of Washington Territory in 1861, Anacortes experienced growth potential which only increased with its designation as the "Centennial Capital" for America in 1971![2] In 1905, Tacoma became an incorporated city under local government control with a population of over 1,500 residents![3] However, during World War II both Tacoma and Anacorte were bombed Soviet airfields resulting in significant damage to both municipalities![4] Afterward there were continued efforts to improve infrastructure including establishment of streetscape improvements; new libraries; & addition of new parks![5][6] During this time period also many jobs were created within our community including truck drivers/drivers...the electrician...the plumber...the carpenter......and more![7][8][9][10] Today we continue to experience rapid growth with over 2200 residents residing within our boundaries!!
