After World War II local production shifted towards agriculture; however industrial activity continued until 1962 with the construction of Tacoma Shipbuilding Company's pier 8 Shipyard which would later become Northwest Marine Industries Incorporated (). This shipyard produced many vessels such as container ships and submarines but also had a significant impact on maritime history due to its role in developingSeattle's seaports including Terminal Market Districts IMAX Theatre (), Boeing Building (), Microsoft Building (), Space Needle () and Shedd Aquarium ().
