Aberdeen, Washington is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 9,914 at the 2010 census. Aberdeen is part of the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area. The first store in Aberdeen opened on October 12, 1892 by Wm. Henson and his son Everett. The store moved to its current location on 8th Avenue North in 1925. In 1907 the town became a city and had its own City Hall and police department. In 1935 the city annexed Aberdeen and Bass Lake Township and all their municipal services were transferred to Aberdeen City Hall. The last major change to Aberdeen's Municipal government came with the annexation of Greenwater Village in 1959 which created a new municipality with its own Police Department as well as an overall responsibility for all public works within that municipality including street paving and other infrastructure such as watermain repairs In 1971 when King County imposed a moratorium on new annexations due to budget problems, Aberdeen voted not to annex any more municipalities despite having over 1,000 residents clamoring for annexation opportunities Aberdeen has one of the oldest electric streetcar systems in North America dating back to 1889 In 1984 local businessman Gordon Hirschman built what is now called "The Gilded Cage" nightclub/restaurant complex along 6th Avenue North which remains one of the most popular tourist destinations in town today

Aberdeen is located on the south bank of the rivers Puyallup and Rainier, about twenty-five miles northwest of Seattle. Aberdeen has been inhabited by Native Americans for over three hundred years. The first European to visit Aberdeen was Captain George Vancouver in 1792. In 1851, Aberdeen became a resort town when it was discovered that gold could be found near what is now downtown Aberdeen. At its peak during the 1920s and 1930s, Aberdeen had a population of 5,000 people. However, with the advent of Interstate 5 and other development changes in Aberdeen during the late 20th century, its population dwindled to 1,527 as of 2010. Today many residents commute to jobs in Seattle or Tacoma; however some continue to live or work in Aberdeen due to its historical ties to mining and tourism industries. The city's main industry has always been mining as there are several mines within a radius of five miles of downtown Aberdeen including: Consolidated Gold Mines (later AlliedGold), First National Bank Mine (now idyllic Lake Union Golf Course), and Highland Copper Mines (now part of Republic Mining Company). These mines produced ore that was shipped downriver by steamboats to various mills throughout Puget Sound before being turned into bricks and mortar for local homes and businesses beginning in 1872. Today most people who live or work outside the downtown area can typically be found at either Idyllwild Resort & Spa located on Anacortes Island or Birch Bay Marina which offers boat trips upriver from downtown every day from April through October inclusive; or Republic Mining Company’s Hazelite mine on Bainbridge Island which produces lead ore that is shipped out via barge until it reach’sconsumer markets such as Seattle or Tacoma
