Aberdeen, Washington is an incorporated town in King County, Washington and the seat of Aberdeen-Kingston Borough. The population was 21,953 at the 2010 census. Aberdeen is on the Puget Sound Peninsula and is bordered by Tacoma to the east and southwest, Seattle to the north, Bellevue to the northwest, and Issaquah to the southeast. It is part of theSeattle-Tacoma metropolitan area. The first settlers in Aberdeen came from New England in 1853. They were farmers who farmed land on Puget Sound until 1887 when they platted what became Aberdeen Township which included present day Aberdeen and parts of Thurston County. The first store in Aberdeen was built about 1870 by Jno A Smith. In 1915 a post office called "Aberdeen" was established with General Store as its first postmaster. In 1923 it changed its name to "Aberdeen-Kingston". In 1941 a new high school building was erected in downtown Aberdeen along with other local government buildings including a firehouse and jail. The old high school building continued to be used as a municipal hall until 1984 when it burned down. In 1907 two brothers named John Murchison opened a general store at 6th Avenue SW in downtown Aberdeen which now houses Macy's Department Store
