Aberdeen is a town in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of theSeattle-Tacoma metropolitan area. Aberdeen is bordered by Mount Rainier National Park to the east, and Lake Union to the west. Aberdeen was founded in 1871 as a small trading post on Puget Sound between Seattle and Tacoma. The name derives from "aberdeen," an ancient Scottish fishing village about north of Aberdeen on Admiralty Inlet. A post office was established there in 1872 and remained in operation until it closed in 1907. The first store in Aberdeen opened its doors on Main Street near present-day Sherman Avenue on October 26th, 1872. By 1890, when white settlement began expanding rapidly along Puget Sound's south shoreline, Aberdeen had become one of the most important towns on that Peninsula because of its location at the mouth of Susquehanna River where goods could be shipped upstream for shipment to points farther inland or exported to other markets. In 1911, when Tacoma became an incorporated city with its own government and boundaries,[1] Aberdeen both lost its importance as a port town but regained some degree of notoriety as one of Tacoma's most colorful neighborhoods due to its wide variety of businesses and social activities centered around downtown including several theaters (the last being demolished in 1991), music venues (the first two were replaced by larger auditoriums during the early 2000s; see also ),[2] art galleries,[3][4][5][6][7] Victorian houses[8], golf courses (including Poulsbo Links which hosted America's Cup Race three times between 1916-1924)[9],[10], tennis courts,[11],[12]) as well as more than a dozen small schools including Holy Cross School.[13] However over time many shops and restaurants have closed down or moved away from downtown due to competition from larger shopping malls or highways such as I-5 which has now completely cut off much of what once lay within what used to be central downtown Aberdeen. Some good examples are The Gilded Cage Eatery & Sports Bar located next door togie Bottega Veneta while anchors Starbucks[14](which occupied space across First Avenue South before moving into their current building adjacent First Avenue North)and Denny’s[15](which relocated across First Avenue North).[16],[17]; all have since been replaced by smaller chainsbusters like Wetlands News BBQ that occupy much same storefront space currently occupied by Safeway/Aloha Foods before they too vacated their building which had served local Carryout services since 1978

The original post office was established in 1807 and continued operation until it closed in 1916. A post office called Aberdeen was established in 1847, but it did not continue operation until 1917. The first school opened in Aberdeen on October 20, 1848 and continued operations until May 9, 1870. The first doctor to practice in Aberdeen was Dr John Suckling who served from 1851 to 1861. Aberdeen became a municipality on December 15, 1907 through an act of the Washington State Legislature which passed by referendum. In 1931, its population reached 7,965 when it annexed neighboring towns of Anacortes and Gig Harbor along with unincorporated territory including about . In 1987 it lost its annexations as part of an effort led by then-Mayor Norm Coleman to reduce its size by 1/4th due to financial problems caused by recessionary times for local businesses that were unable to keep up with development rates in surrounding jurisdictions such as Seattle and Olympia
Aberdeen, Washington was first settled in 1853 and later became the seat of Thurston County. The town developed around a logging community which operated until the early 1900s. Aberdeen's economy primarily centered around agriculture and timber production until after World War II when it began to grow as a suburb of Seattle.
