Waynesboro is a small town in Prince Edward County, Virginia, United States. The population was 2,914 at the 2010 census. Waynesboro is located on the Potomac River. The town was founded in 1788 by Capt. John Waynes and named for him after its location on the main route from Alexandria to Mount Vernon. The first settler in Waynesboro was James Robertson who arrived in 1789. By 1800, there were five families living in Waynesboro: three Englishmen (Robertson, Dunbar, and Grant), one Welshman (Flamborough), and one American Revolutionary War veteran (Hutchinson). In 1802, Captain John Waynes set a store in what is now the Town square and began trading goods with local farmers and traders. In 1805-06 he built a log cabin which still stands today as the courthouse annexe of the present day town hall building. He also started to clear land for future development including developing what is now Main Street between West Market & North Fairfax Streets The first school in Waynesboro was built on property that still stands today near East Market Street between High School Road & Barnes Road One of the early members of the board of education for Waynesboro was Mrs Fenton who served from 1810 to 1830 . In 1814 Dr Broughton established an Asylum for Incurable Misfits near where Main Street crosses South Fairfax Street

Waynesboro is a town in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. The population was 24,870 at the 2010 census. Waynesboro has been inhabited by Native Americans for over 200 years and was founded in 1781 by white settlers named John Randolph and his wife Susannah Randolph. The town became part of Prince Edward Island when that island became United States territory in 1788. In 1853, the U.S. Congress passed an act to make Waynesboro a separate county within Fairfax County; this act designated it as the seat of government for the new county. In 1871, Waynesboro incorporated as a village; it withdrew from Fairfax County on July 1, 1976. The Village of Waynesboro merged with Great Falls on October 15, 1984 to form the Town of Great Falls-Waynesboro Combined Statistical Area (CSA). The CSA had a total population of 38,711 as of 2010 . The first white settler in what would become Waynesboro was John Randolph who arrived with his family around 1781 from Prince Edward Island after being granted land there through British fur traders. John's wife Susannah also came over with him and they started construction on their home which eventually stood today near where Union Station now stands. They named their home "Mount Zion" because they thought that it would be better to live up high since they would be able to see everything happening down below them on Earth than down in present day Fairfax County which at that time consisted mostly of rural farmland and small towns situated along major highways like I-95 and Interstate 66 which were only accessible by car or train due to lack of other transportation options at that time! They were correct! And so began one of Virginias most proud histories - Mount Zion became one of the first brick homes in America! It wasn't until 1854 when Congress passed an act making Waynesboro a separate county within Fairfax County - this act designated it as the seat for government for newly formed county which included much Of Northern Virginia including Waynesborougth - giving way to what we know today asVA's capital Richmond! In 1871, village incorporation happened and soon after Great Falls merged into its larger counterpart – forming what is known today as the Town of Great Falls-WayNESBOROUGH CSA – becoming one entity with 38 thousand residents! This merger resulted in many jobs moving between both villages – significantly impacting both economies which are still evident today thanks largely to strong community partnerships!. It wasn't until 1976 when Village/Town status was rescinded following vote by residents due primarily to concerns about taxes levied against them by Main Street Inc., later renamed MetroWest Regional Council.. After much discussion amongst all involved parties Borough Status was reinstated effective January 1st 1977 providing all residents within Borough have voting rights & ability to raise money thru taxation without having impact on other services provided By Main Street Inc!!! Prior thereto Every Resident Within Borough Was Appointed A Mayor With Vote In All Matters pertaining To Governance !! Nowadays boroughs dot VA & constituent municipalities administer these services under guidelines set forth By MetroWest Regional CouncilTG4
