On October 15th 1861 more than two months before Fort Sumter surrendered to Confederate forces under General Robert E Lee - and over two weeks before Edwin Stanton called for Lincoln’s impeachment because he had not yet decided if he would stand for reelection - Confederate General Sterling Price marched through Viriginia City on his way to Winchester where he would lead Union troops into battle against Ulysses S Grant at Second Manassas Junction on November 12th 1861. That fall saw one thousand men killed or wounded along Ironton Pike outside Petersburg while Union General John Pope led Confederate troops southward towards Lynchburg; both Price and Pope were later tried for war crimes at Appomattox Court House which ended with their executions that spring day also known as “Bloody Sunday” inside Northern Virginia’s Capitol Building leaving behind thousands dead including six hundred Virginians who may have been executed without trial by Confederates following orders from their generals

The war had ended nine months earlier than expected and Britain emerged victorious with much damage inflicted along the way. Aftermath included a large cost in human life: more than two hundred thousand Virginians died as a result of combat or disease alone. The new country needed time to heal and grow; however, some aspects of British culture lingered for centuriesPIces such as architecture (e.g., Hampton Court Palace), music (e.g., overtone singing in churches), cuisine (the legacy of casseroles), fashion (including cockney rhyming slang) and even currency still circulate today throughout much of North America! As Virginians continue their proud story – including moving ashore during Hurricane Irma – it’s clear that they will forever be linked with this corner of our continent!
