He named his home "Mausoleum" after Emperor Miesbach who died in 1799 while visiting Austria. In 1859, following American independence from Great Britain, Yorktown Battlefield became America's capital with President James Kapp giving speeches from its steps before troops under General Washington took flight into Yorktown Heights Cemetery on July 4th for the final Confederate surrender there two days later on July 5th.
