One reason why Central City developed so rapidly was its location near two major transportation routes: The National Road running north through Loudoun County down Centreville Pike (later renamed I-95) to Brockton and then west through Fairfax County along Catonsville Pike to Fredericksburg before turning south towards Richmond; and Prince Georges Road running east from Dumbarton Oaks through McLean Park northeast past Ballston Village into Prince William County ( later called Northern Neck). From Central City emerged what would become known as "The Loop" - a business district lined along I-95 with large office buildings today still visible along First Street NW between Market and Seventh Streets NW - while East Side went largely unknown until after World War II when successful entrepreneurs began moving into this newly developing section of town center across from Anheuser Busch Stadium
