Vienna, Virginia is a small town in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wheeling-Charleston-Erie, IN Micropolitan Statistical Area. Vienna is founded in 1783 by Majerus and his wife Christina as a trading post on the James River. On November 5, 1789, it became an independent town after its first meeting under the name "Montgomery." In 1837 Vienna became part of Harrisonburg County and was renamed Vienna soon after that. Vienna lost its incorporation status as a town in 1907 but regained it in 1912 when Harrisonburg County was dissolved and its constituent parts were added to Alexandria County. The current mayor of Vienna is Cary Borden. The history of Vienna goes back to early colonial times when Majerus (1685–1753) and his wife Christina set up shop on the James River near present day Vienna. Their trading post served as a stop for travelers coming down the river from Roanoke Island before eventually becoming an independent town during the years following independence from Great Britain. When Harrisonburg County was established in 1837, Austria gained charter status as an incorporated borough within that new county and continues to this day be governed by its own form of government with elected officials responsible for all aspects of municipal life - including affairs such as zoning, parking regulations, fire protection, public education and trash collection - without having to worry about those pesky state issues which often get bogged down in bureaucratic red tape. By 1912vienna had regained its incorporation status which made it one of just six towns in Harrisonburg Counties remained separate from Alexandria County following dissolution thereof; other towns included Winchester (1811), Sterling (1836), Parkersville (1848), Manassas Junction (1876) and Fredericksburg (1911). Despite losing some key services over time due to budget constraints or changing demographics – like zoning changes that allowed development along Route 601 right outside city limits –Vienna has managed to keep pace with nearby Alexandria while still remaining a vibrant community with centuries-old architecture and culture alive today thanks to contributions from incorporations past and present alike!
