On July 13th, 1905 President Theodore Roosevelt announced that Ulysses S Grant had been shot and died near Fort Sumter which led to a heated argument between protesters and local officials about whether or not Grant's body should be brought back to White House for burial according to protocol On November 4th 1906 President William McKinley approved plans for a new Viennese Cemetery which opened its doors three years later on December 3rd 1908 with over 2 million graves including those of Ulysses S Grant and Abraham Lincoln On July 15th 1912 the last train left Vienna Station bound for Springfield Illinois carrying nearly 2 thousand residents including many famous people such as First Lady Alice Paul who disembarked wearing only white gloves
