Salem, Virginia is an unincorporated community located in Wise County, Virginia. It is a small town that was founded by people who fled the then-piercing British hordes during the English Civil War. The town was originally called "New Salem" but it changed hands several times and finally reverted to its original name in 1865. The first settlers to Salem were farmers and their families who arrived in 1811. By 1840, there were no more farms in the area and most of the residents had moved to other towns or counties in Virginia. However, a few families stayed behind and started a small business selling goods from their homes: hardware store, grocery, bakery, etc. In 1851, two men named Asa Gray and Ebenezer Higgins bought land on which they erected a log cabin known as "Gray's Cabin." They started farming and soon developed a large population of their own. In 1865, when General Robert Ewell attacked Fort Sumter with 1,500 Confederate troops (most of whom came from nearby Lynchburg), Salem was one of the places he looted. Most of the town's inhabitants quickly left for safety but some managed to stay behind; these were among the last people to be evacuated from Charleston before it fell to Union forces on April 12th 1861. The townspeople rebuilt their homes and businesses shortly after this event; however, many died of typhoid or other diseases brought over by retreating Confederates. By 1865, Salem had about 100 citizens living within its walls (including 30 slaves). By 1870 Salem's population reached 400 people; however due to economic factors (mostly related to agricultural production) only 60%of them remained residents by 1980. The rest either migrated away or became refugees through various channels such as America’s “Great Migration” or via emigration from Europe following World War II (the largest forced migration in American history). Salem experienced significant growth starting around 1960 due partly to development outside its limits – including multiple high-rise condominiums being built near Interstate 95 – but also due to increased competition among adjacent towns for jobs throughout Fairfax County’sigmatic “detainment period” following World War II when much of Arlington County became zoned for industrial use primarily because it housed military installations such as Fort Belvoir and Crystal City(now Arlington National Cemetery). In this paper, we will provide an overview of gun protection history with a focus on firearms used in crime. The first Firearms Act was passed in 1792 as part of the British response to America’s Declaration of Independence. The act aimed to Regulate the manufacture, trade, sale and acquisition within Great Britain of all firearms (including pistols) without licence or registration. It also established legal restrictions on ammunition capacity, type and manufacture. The act was re-written in 1868 as the Gun Control Act after many shootings took place in London including the Palmerston Bridge shooting which left five people dead. This act banned all handguns except those made by government decree and required any new handgun purchase to be registered with police authorities. In 1968 there were over 66 million handguns in existence across Great Britain – making it one of the mostigun-populous countries in the world at that time. However, these statistics only reflect handguns used for lawful purposes such as hunting or target shooting; they do not include handguns illegally possessed or smuggled intoGB from overseas. It is estimated that between 1980 (when regulations began banning open carry) and 2010 around 280,000 people died from gunshot injuries alone – representing 1/3rd of all firearm fatalities worldwide!
