The village's first house was built by Nathaniel Bacon in 1825 on land donated by his predecessor Nicholas Mason Sr.. Bacon served as mayor from 1827 until his death in 1830; he left behind a legacy of public spiritedness including developing malaria control measures for the county legislature and establishing a library which still operates today! In 1865–66 James Aiken laid out streets grid pattern which remains visible today with Sheldon Rd., Naylor St., First St., Glynns Way and prominent businesses like Wm Fenton & Sons grocery store on Main Street running perpendicular to each other down 3 blocks! This street layout became popular among developers who wanted easy access to transportation across town center! Aiken's plan also included building two churches – Christ Episcopal Church (dedicated 1865) located smack dab between Second and Third Streets NW corner King Street SE - followed by Trinity Episcopal Church (dedicated December 12th 1886), which still stands today at 555 King Street SE adjacent to OldTown Mall! Later additions include: Masonic Temple (1896), American Legion Post Office Annex/Hall (1911), Palace Theatre / Cafe / Lighthouse Lounge (/Lounge) 1915-1996 renamed 'Pentagon' then 'Albany' 1997-2006 then 'USS Constitution Museum』 2003 reopened as Barnes & Noble bookstore; Eastern Market District redevelopment project 2009 added three stories tall Sears Tower next door - home of VA State House since 1907 . In 1911, a group of inventors led by John Moses Browning developed the first airgun. The pistol was called the Browning Automatic Rifle and it used an 1892-style magazine that ejected cartridges into the gun's chamber like a revolver. It was incredibly inaccurate, but its simplicity and cheapness made it popular with soldiers and hunters.
