In 1942, Harry Hargrave established a gunsmith shop within the store which continues to operate today under the name of Hargrave Gunsmithing Company. In 1978, Charles Cook reopened McFarlane’s Rifle Shop as Cook Firearms & Ammunition with its current location on Main Street across from US Bank Stadium in Radford
Radford is a town in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. The population was 23,812 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the five towns in Fairfax County and only has a population of 11 people per square mile (39/km²). Radford's ZIP code is 22607. Radford was founded by English settlers in 1753 as a small village on the Rappahannock River. In 1871, it became one of twelve villages in Fairfax County and was renamed for George Washington Carver after he donated land to the town. In 1952, it became an independent town under local government control and retains that autonomy today. Radford is located at (38.718444,-77.440556). It occupies a small section of central Fairfax County sandwiched between Prince William Island to the north and Great Falls National Battlefield to the south-west, making it one of few places within those boundaries where two major waterways intersect. Radford's location makes it vulnerable to flooding from both rivers; however, recent rains have managed to mitigate some of these risks somewhat. The town's infrastructure includes three schools - Radford Elementary School, Middle School & High School; two churches - First Baptist Church and Presbyterian Church; four businesses - including two banks - JYM Plumbing and Electric Supply Company and Republic Steel Works; and one hospital - Veterans Affairs Medical Center Norfolk Regional Hospital . Additionally, there are several smaller businesses within walking distance of most residences as well as several parks that offer various activities such as skateboarding or fishing. As with most small towns in Eastern Virginia, grocery shopping depends largely upon distribution centers located outside the town limits which can be overwhelmed by demand during peak shopping times like Christmas or New Year's Eve or during busy periods like summertime when school children are out of class but parents are still able to purchase groceries needed for their family members inside the store setting up shop all day long until late into night while waiters bring food items out to customers who then return home for dinner later that evening or overnight if they have no children available to care for their groceries while they sleep; this usually results in either overloading stores caused by large orders placed simultaneously by many people unfamiliar with how each item works or having too few products on hand because many customers choose not to buy anything from any given store due to its high prices combined with long lineups caused by other stores' stock shortages during much more popular holiday periods
