When the first settlers arrived in Poquoson in 1777, they were faced with a difficult problem – where to put their weapons? The answer was easy, according to some – in the woods. As time passed and the town grew, it became necessary to find a more permanent location for the armory and other military purposes. In 1812, Poquoson's first courthouse was built on North Main Street. The building served as Poquoson's government center until 1837 when it was replaced by the present-day courthouse. As gun control laws evolved during the 19th century, holster makers began manufacturing holsters specifically for firearms. Holster manufacturers of this era included John Daly & Son (1850), DeWitt & Sons (1861), and Wesson & Co. (1868). It wasn't until after World War II that holsters fell out of favor as handguns became more popular. However, they continued to be made into the 1970s by various companies such as Colt Firearms Manufacturing Company and Smith & Wesson Corporation. The current production of holsters begins in earnest in 1984 when American Holsters Incorporated founded its operations inPoquoson. In 1826, John Holbrook, a Revolutionary War veteran and member of the Virginia House of Delegates, introduced a bill to annex Poquoson. The bill passed the House but was vetoed by Governor Randolph. In 1829, James Buchanan became President of the United States and appointed General James Wilkinson as Collector of Customs inPoquoson. Wilkinson bought land around present-day Portsmouth and established a town there in 1830. The name Poquoson was derived from "Pocahontas" (Iahepa Indian) who had been living in what is now Poquoson County since 1607. In 1847, Captain A.H. Ellis founded the Portsmouth Marine Hospital on board the USS Constitution which served as an hospital for sailors during the American Civil War. The town grew steadily until it reached its peak population in 1915 when over 50% of all residents were employed within its borders by either businesses or government services; this represented one out of every four jobs inPoquoson at that time. However, during World War II defense production shifted to support war efforts overseas and many local businesses closed their doors including those connected with medical care and food production; however, many local veterans are still buried in Poquoson today due to their service during World War II

Poquoson is a town in Prince William County, Virginia, United States. The population was 7,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Norfolk/Virginia Beach–Norfolk Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Poquoson was Nicholas Pope who arrived with his family in 1764. In 1812, John Pope and his brother James founded the village of Pope's Creek on what is now the eastern edge of Poquoson township. The name "Pope" may have come from Nicholas' older brother John who had named their family's plantation for him and his wife Catherine (née Pope). In 1823, the General Assembly passing an act provided for a town site to be chosen by lot from all of Prince William County and it was settled by Captains John Cook and Benjamin Fenton on November 8 that year. On December 2nd, Captain Cook donated land to build a courthouse and public square which became known as "Cook Square". In 1840, Colonel Robert Epps established himself as a merchant inCourtesyville and began trading with Native Americans such as the Powhatan people. He organized present day Poquoson into two towns - Courtlandt (later renamed Northampton) on one side of the Rappahannock River while Courtesyville lay to the east - each with its own government and courts. This system continued until 1865 when both jurisdictions were combined under one government when Poquoson became independent from Courtlandt Township under Governor Jno Henson VA #27-1870 On October 1st 1861Poquoson was chartered by Governor George Washington Carver as an agricultural community named for General Alfred Mizee commanding Confederate army in Shenandoah Valley during American Civil War era battle at Winchester Field near Manassas Junction Southeastern Va If you travel down Route 291 just before mile marker 20 there will be a small white house located off road next to some bushes that used to be an orchard

These weapons included the Model 1 Indian Rifle which was designed by Dragoons Captain Samuel Colt in 1824 while on military service in India

Poquoson was founded in 1749 by James Poquoson and his wife, Susannah. The town was named for a small creek that ran through it. James Poquoson was a captain in the British army and fought at the Battle of Saratoga. His family moved to Poquoson from Winchester, Virginia in 1754. In 1775, General John Forbes besieged and captured Richmond, Virginia after a long siege. The town had to be abandoned because of the siege and its lack of food. In 1805, Congress decided to give up Richmond because it considered it too dangerous to hold against an attack by Napoleon Bonaparte. However, some people wanted to keep Poquoson alive so they built a fort on the creek in 1810 and again in 1814 when troops were attacking Gloucester Heights. From 1815-1820, Poquoson served as capital of Confederate Virginia during the American Civil War. It was eventually surrendered by Union forces on April 9th 1865. After the war, Poquoson reverted back to its original name and status as a small town within Virginias territorial limits Today, Poquoson is home to around 100 residents who are mostly farmers or fishermen with some trades such as carpentry or baking The primary economic activity is agriculture but there is also some processing industry present such as cheese production The local history museum offers exhibits about local life from pre-colonial times until today

The town's economy thrived until the early 1800s when a series of natural disasters hit the area. In 1824, a severe flood destroyed much of Poquoson and left many people homeless. The town rebuilt quickly but experienced another disaster in 1830 when a massive fire swept through the community. By 1840, Poquoson had become a small farming town with few businesses other than grocery stores and family farms.
