On October 11, 1940, during World War II Poquoson residents supported American forces by raising flags at their local high schools as part of "Operation Neptune's Spear." On November 5th of that year President Franklin D. Roosevelt announced his plan for peace through strength which called for more troops to be sent to Europe than had been planned initially and called for all Americans over 25 years old to supply their own food ration cards which would provide them with goods like meat and vegetable items not available through normal channels like grocery stores or newspapers). Because so many men had served overseas there were no jobs available back home so many men went off into combat or joined up with other countries during World War II where they never came home again officially though most are still buried overseas today including 1/4th century BC Native American John Ballou who died during battle against Spanish forces near modern-day Manassas Junction (then known as Stafford) when unit cohesion broke down due to lack of communication technology among units then later his body was found cached undergrowth nearby next morning probably from Spanish forces seeking cover prior to reinforcements arriving

Poquoson is a small town in Caroline County, Virginia, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Roanoke–Lynchburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. Poquoson was founded by English colonists in 1736 as Potosiun Creek Settlement. The first permanent settler arrived in 1740 and named it for Portsmouth, England. By 1800 Poquoson had a population of 800 and became an incorporated village in 1813. In 1861 Poquoson was merged with nearby Lynchburg to form the newly formed Richmond-Poquoson Combined Statistical Area which has a total population of over 9600 today. In 1736 English colonists moved from Portsmouth, England to what is now Caroline County, Virginia to establish this new land on what would become known as Potosiun Creek Settlement near present day Poquoson. At that time there were only about 25 people living in this area and they soon began building their homes and businesses around the creek which they christened "Potosiun" after their home country of Portsmouth, England. The first permanent settler arrived here in 1740 and named it Potosiun Creek Settlement after his home country of Portsmouth, England where he had been born some years earlier. By 1800 Potosiun had a population of 800 residents and became an incorporated village under the jurisdiction of Lynchburg Parish within the larger Richmond-Poquoson Combined Statistical Area which had its own government with a total population of over 9600 residents at its peak in 1961! Today Potosiun remains one of Virginias most vibrant communities with active commercial districts centered around its downtown area including several banks/financial institutions along with restaurants/cafés/bars /restaurants etc., making it a great place to live or visit!
The area now known as Poquoson was a part of the Colony of Virginia during the time of King George II. The first permanent English settler in what is now Poquoson County was Nicholas Westfall, who arrived in 1670. He built a cabin on the present site of the courthouse in 1724. The original county seat was at Portsmouth, but it moved to Poquoson in 1821.
