The Petersburg Rifle Club was chartered on the night of November 25, 1872. The club was originally called the “Virginia Rifle and Pistol Club” and served as an indoor range for shooting practice. On December 5, 1873, the club changed its name to the Petersburg Rifle and Shotgun Club. The club purchased a rifle range in 1865 from Captain George Waddell. The first firearm purchase by the club was a shotgun in 1866. In 1870,Captain John Easley donated land to the club for use as a rifle range. Captain Easley also provided financial support for theclub until his death in 1893. In 1913,the clubhouse building burned down and was replaced with a new building which still stands today.
Petersburg, Virginia is a town in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. The population was 21,873 at the 2010 census. As of the 2000 census, there were 23,614 people living in Petersburg. The town is named after its founder and first mayor John C. Parsons. The first European settlers in what is now Petersburg arrived in 1775 by ship from London. They named their new settlement "Petersburg" in honor of Russian tsar Peter the Great who had just become king of Russia. The town grew rapidly and by 1802 it had a population of over 20,000 people. In 1814 Petersburg was made the capital of Virginia and soon became one of the most important cities in America due to its status as the seat of government for all seven counties comprising Fairfax County (the current incarnation of Richmond). In 1865 Petersburg was burned down by Confederate forces during the American Civil War; only eight buildings remained standing when Reconstruction began five years later. After Reconstruction ended in 1877, Petersburg declined rapidly until it regained some much-needed vitality through annexations by Smyrna and other nearby towns during the late 19th century and early 20th century; however this resurgence stopped short of true revitalization until recent times with many businesses closing or moving to larger markets such as Arlington or Alexandria following economic downturns throughout much of Greater Washington D.C.. In recent decades redevelopment has resumed with new development taking place along routes I-95 and Interstate 66/I-495 within walking distance of downtown including several high-end restaurants and nightlife options like Ballston Spa Casino Resort & Hotel which opened up Shoprite Plaza on South Broad Street adjacent to Interstate 695 on February 12th 2009 Boyd's Mills Historic District offers an excellent opportunity for amateur historians to study early textile industry operations dating back to at least 1800 while also preserving significant buildings associated with this period including a millinery shop known as “The White House” that served as president James Kenton’s home during his time as governor (1801–05). Most importantly Boyd’s Mills offers an opportunity for visitors to see firsthand how social clubs such as dances and balls were conducted at this time without having to go outside city limits where facilities were limited or prohibitively expensive

After the war, many Confederates moved to Petersburg and it became an important industrial center during Reconstruction until it lost its economic stability in the late 20th century. The area now known as Petersburg was largely agricultural until World War II when industries began to develop there such as shipbuilding and now include several high-rise buildings built for government agencies such as local government offices and schools
