Petersburg's downtown district is home to many notable historical buildings including: The George Washington House (1755), locally known as "The White House" because it served as both a residence for George Washington and for office use until 1800; Masonic Temple (1824); First National Bank Building (1890); Federal Hall Courtyard (1912); and Fort Monroe State Park (1937).
