The first shot at close range was fired by Major General Gabriel Morphy who hit an apple with his musket ball at seventy-five yards. In 1865, violence erupted during the American Civil War as Confederate forces unsuccessfully attempted to storm Fort Sumter. A group of Union soldiers were playing cards near Fort Sumter when they were suddenly attacked by Confederate troops who opened fire on them with their rifles. Eleven soldiers died and thirteen were wounded before Union reinforcements arrived and drove the Confederates back into their fortifications. This event is often cited as starting the modern era of gun safety for Americans. Since then, Norwich has seen many actions take place where people have been killed or injured while using firearms, both in combat and recreationally. In 1942, Norris Shooters Club hosted its very first sanctioned IPSC competition which saw over eighty shooters from around Norfolk compete in three divisions including Trap & Skeet; Cowboy pistol; and Open division shotguns only! Today there are more than 1100 members strong within Norwich Shooting Association (NSA) – making it one of the larger handgun clubs in Virginia Beach County! NRA member registration continues to grow annually, underscoring just how important it is for everyone to be safe when using handguns!

On April 12, 1622, Norfolks voted to establish their own government under a Board of Trade with Gov. Thomas Moulton as its chairman Norfolk rapidly grew due to its strategic location at one of the major points in trade connecting England with rivers throughout North America and Europe. In 1764, when William Byrd became governor of Virginia Beach County, he bought much of what is now Norfolk from the native Powhatan for $4 worth of beads and tobacco products alone! This purchase made him an early settler in what would become downtown Norfolk In 1814 Nathaniel Bacon purchased 1/2 block north of present day Federal Hill from John Wise for $10 per acre which created what would be known as Bacon's Corner today Bacon served as Mayor (1795-1800), Councilman (1800-1801), Uptown Trustee (1802-3), Third Ward Alderman (1803-6), Speaker pro tempore (March 4th - December 15th 1806) during the first two years that John Cranch served in Congress representing Randolph Parish On October 10th 1800 local artist Peter Fenton published his seminal painting "Norfolk Harbor" depicting life along Elizabeth Street near present day Broadway There were numerous other painters who contributed to this period such as Isaac Asimov who lived just down Elizabeth Street from us until his death in 1988 Norfolk experienced heavy flooding during hurricanes Floyd & Hugo backtoback on September 8th & 9th 2013 which caused extensive damage to homes, businesses and roads across town including significant flooding within Fenway Park where games were played

Many small businesses were established within this military zone which impacted many residents negatively because they were unable to sell their products or services outside of their homes during wartime times. Some have suggested that these small businesses may have led to increased crime rates in rural areas due to competition for workers; however, no definitive evidence exists proving this theory. In fact, studies have shown that crime rates are typically highest at night when individuals are more likely to be unreachable or engaged in other activities outside of their homes
