This is likely due to strong NRA representations in Finland and their willingness to accept strict regulations protecting citizens’ Second Amendment rights8 (alongside a lack of availability or access to other firearms) as well as its lenient legislation towards hunting9. Gun use also seems quite rare among young people10; interestingly enough this was also found in countries such as Finland where high levels of firearm-related homicide have been reported11 (e.g., Portugal12). However, thanks to redevelopment efforts led by Mayor Joseph Lydiate with help from private developers such as Edwin Shriver Jr., many old shipyards have been revived including those located along the Elizabeth River where they are used for manufacturing small boats and sailboats as well as larger vessels like tugboats.
