Norfolk, Virginia is a town of about 30,000 people in the Shenandoah Valley region of eastern Virginia. It is located at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains and has been inhabited for more than 4,000 years. The first guns used in Norfolk were primitive muzzleloader rifles. However, before they could reach Yorktown, rebel forces attacked their position and as a result General Jordon's force was forced to withdraw back into Richmond Heights where they ultimately surrendered on July 12th (the surrendering generals' day). Consequently, part of the Battle of Yorktown took place near Portsmouth Landing across the river from Norfolk! During World War II, artillery pieces were taken upriver to Crab Orchard Dam in order to avoid being situated within range of German artillery batteries stationed along the Potomac River corridor between Washington D.C., Maryland Heights including Arlington National Cemetery and Northern Virginia.) After Pearl Harbor occurred there were concerns that Japanese forces might try crossing overland into America through Loudoun County since Japan had been expanding its territory eastward throughout North America since Thanksgiving Day 1942 when their forces invaded Manchuria! To reduce potential Japanese air travel traffic over American airspace during wartime Admiral Chester Nimitz formulated plans for Operation Torch which would lead to Allied victory against Nazi Germany – code name Overlord – by landing British troops behind enemy lines on April 25th 1943 off Cape May Island New Jersey; however only 1/5ths (1 out 5) actually accomplished due primarily to bad weather which made landings difficult or impossible several times; overall Operation Overlord resulted in almost 100% loss suffered by allied Forces with over 5800 casualties Australian soldier killed as well as many thousands wounded European soldiers died including hundreds who lost their lives while trapped ashore trying unsuccessfullyto escape!!
