Today's economy is based largely on information technology services and tourism; however, some older manufacturing facilities have been resurrected such as Matson Navigation Corporation's tugboatyard which produces small boats for both pleasure cruising and fishing purposes; the old water main that once ran through downtown Newport News has been redeveloped into a park featuring bike paths and walking trails connecting different parts of town.
