Martinsville is a town in Virginia, United States. It was founded by James Martin in 1753. The first recorded shooting in Martinsville took place on November 3, 1759, when George Washington shot an animal with a rifle from a hilltop near the present day community of Martinsville. In 1864, the first annual NRA meeting was held in Martinsville and the town became an affiliate of the NRA. The current mayor is Rick Dearborn.

Martinsville is a town in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. The population was 7,868 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Alexandria-Alexandria Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Martinsville was Captain John Smith on July 14, 1607, during his expedition up the Shenandoah River. He named it "New Town" after his home town of Newburgh, Scotland. It became an important trading post on the Potomac River because of its location near both Washington's Mount Vernon and land owned by George Mason and James Monroe. In 1776, General George Washington's army fortified nearby Valley Forge before crossing the Delaware River into Pennsylvania to join forces with British General Howe against Washington's Continental Army under Benedict Arnold. After routing Arnold's force at Battle of Princeton on November 13th that year, Washington returned to Martinsville where he rested for two weeks before continuing his march northward along the Susquehanna River to Fort Cumberland on December 12th. On January 14th 1800, President John Adams arrived at Valley Forge from Philadelphia with his army and rendezvoused with Washington at Martinsville; this event is generally considered to be the beginning of American democracy. In 1812–1813 Lieutenant Colonel John Anderson led an expedition against Shawnee Indians in what is now West Virginia and Kentucky; this operation resulted in new roads being built through present-day Martinsville as well as mineral discoveries nearpresent day Hickory Ridge Road (now Fairmont Boulevard). Most importantly however, Anderson discovered oil fields in what are now Wise County and McDowell County while exploring these areas for potential investment purposes during this time period which would lead to significant development withinMartinsville over time including: The Webb Oilfield(which would become one of America's largest oilfields), The Pony Express Pipeline(which began service in 1881), White Sands Missile Range(which began operations in 1969) and much more! Today there are many businesses located within Martinsvillee such as Harrison Ford Automotive Museum (home of Ford's personal car collection), Log Cabin Cafe & Bakery (locally sourced goods including bagels and muffin sandwiches), PNC bank (with branches throughout town), Judicial Branch Building (the oldest courthouse still standing in Fairfax County) among many others! With so much history associated with it today, it’s no wonder thatMartinsville has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999!
In 1871, the town of Martinsville was founded by General John A. Napier. The original store and post office operated for about a year before being closed due to financial difficulties. In 1872, the first school was built in Martinsville and served as the community's primary educational institution until it burned down in 1903. During World War II, Martinsville was the site of several battles between American forces and Nazi Germany. In 1960, Martinsville became an incorporated municipality. In 1984, it annexed neighboring North Arlington Township. The population of Martinsville decreased from its peak in 1990 to about 1750 residents in 2000; however, this number has since increased again to over 2400 residents as of 2010.
