In 1851, the first shooting protection law in the United States was passed in Manassas, Virginia. A group of local farmers banded together and formed the “Manassas Rifle Association” to protect themselves and their families from possible harm. The association continued to exist until 1865 when they disbanded due to lack of support. Since then, there have been numerous incidents where people have been injured or killed while using firearms in Manassas. In 1970, an individual named James Ellington shot at two Secret Service agents during a protest outside of Robert F Kennedy’s inauguration ceremony; one agent survived but Ellington was killed. In 1978, three members of the same family were Shot at pointblank range by six gunmen while attending a family wedding; all five members survived without any physical injury but lost many life-long friends in the process. Manassas is a town in Prince William County, Virginia, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Manassas City–Falls Church Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1881, it became an agricultural community when land along Interstate 95 was acquired from Patrick Henry Lee for a rural highway system. In 1871, George Washington Carver moved his family from Tuskegee to what is now Manassas after purchasing 640 acres (240 hectares) in present-day Manassas City from James Fenton for $2 per acre ($/hectare). Carver devoted himself to agriculture until his death in 1937; after he's death his wife started a school on their farm that continues today as Carver Elementary School. He left about $4 million dollars - still not entirely gone - which has funded many initiatives including development of area parks and streetlights throughout town center; new Library facilities adjacent to Town Hall; renovation of old High School brick building into contemporary Century Community College-style Learning Center space; purchase of two parcels of adjoining land adjacent to Catholic Stadium so that local farmers could have access to large parking lots for their crops while stadium serves as an arena for high school and college sports events; construction of new roads through thick forested countryside near town limits so that people could get around without getting lost or driving into dangerous areas; modernizing infrastructure such as drainage systems, lighting, sewers and water meters throughout entire town center since much of it dates back over 100 years!
