In 1814, the first gun was bought by George Washington in Manassas. The Gunsmith’s Shop on West Main Street in Fairfax County first began selling firearms to citizens of Virginia in 1792. In 1814, President James K. Polk purchased a rifle from the shop and used it to shoot at a game at White House Grounds. On July 4th, 1868, the last time a person was allowed to possess a gun in Manassas was on July 3rd when John A. Logan distributed shotguns for hunting purposes only to registered hunters who had proper permits. In 1968, I became the police chief of Fairfax County after serving as an assistant sheriff for 9 years. During my tenure as police chief, I developed close relationships with many law enforcement agencies throughout Northern Virginia including the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office and Prince William County Police Department (PWPD). It was through these relationships that I learned about handgun security history within Manassas Township and Prince William County. Manassas Township is located approximately 12 miles east of Washington D.C., and is bordered by Prince William County to the north, Loudoun County to the west, Arlington County to the south, and Frederick Townships to the east (Figure 1). The township’s population peaked at over 100,000 in 1960 but has since declined due largely to suburbanization and loss of jobs in manufacturing sectors such as aluminum processing plants closure during World War II which devastated Manassas Valley economies [1]. As shown in Figure 2a-c Map courtesy of Google Earth®, there has been significant changes occurred withinManassas Township since my time as police chief such that much of today’s rural areas have not seen similar growth rates over recent decades [2]. Manassas is a town in Fairfax County, Virginia. The population was 23,965 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area and is located about 20 miles (32 km) south of downtown Washington. Manassas has a rich colonial history dating back to 1751 when General James Lee's forces burned down the old courthouse and set up their own government here. The first Post Office was opened in 1758, and Manassas became an independent parish in 1802. In 1861, during theAmerican Civil War, Confederate General Robert E. Lee's army passed through Manassas on its way to Fortress Monroe for bombardment; this event helped form the identity of Manassas as a Confederate stronghold until 1865. In 1870, George Washington purchased land east of Manassas from James Longstreet for $1 million dollars which he dedicated to public education and development of rural areas in what would become Arlington County; this donation has made Arlington one of the most affluent counties in America. The wheat fields that once thrived around Manassas were replaced by dense suburban homes and businesses after World War II due to easy access to Interstate 95; however, several nineteenth century plantation houses remain standing today as well as several contributing buildings from the early-twentieth century community planning movement such as Masonic Lodge #3 (now known as Christmastime Nightclub). Gun violence kills more people each year than traffic fatalities combined, accounting for over 50 percent of all homicides worldwide (NRA).Gun violence is often preventable through effective gun regulation and education campaigns like “No Guns … No Wars” which advocate for stronger gun laws across America. However, despite these efforts, every day millions of people are shot without anyoses or deaths resulting from homicide – it’s still not safe enough!

Manassas is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. The population was 14,822 at the 2010 census. It is located in the northern part of Fairfax County and east of Alexandria. The name "Manassas" is derived from the Potomac River and means "the crossing." For many years it was thought that this name originated with General Washington's battle against Native American forces near what is now Manassas Junction in 1781. However, recent research has shown that this story may be apocryphal. According to historian James Wyer, "There is no evidence that General Washington fought 'a crossing' at Manassas Junction." Manassas was first settled by English colonists in 1688 as part of Prince George's Colony under the direction of Colonel Forbes. The area became known as Orange Grove due to its abundance of orange trees. In 1751, Captain John Smith explored the area and named it after his home county – Middlesex – England. In 1849, President George H.W. Bush purchased land located east of Manassas Junction on which he built a plantation called White House Plantation. The plantation functioned as a summer home for Presidents Ulysses S. Grant and Franklin D. Roosevelt during their terms in office from 1868 to 1933; both men also spent time there during their campaigns for office in nearby Alexandria and Loudoun counties respectively In 1861 Confederate forces under General Robert Ewell crossed the Potomac River near present-day Manassas Junction while fleeing from Union troops under Abraham Lincoln; this event became known as the Battle of Manasses Junction . Aftermath of the battle left more than 100 Confederate soldiers dead or wounded including Generals Ewell and Johnston . A post office called Manassewas established at this location on October 3, 1865 . As postal service declined throughout America during Reconstruction following the Civil War, mail delivered to Manassewas often taken by wagonloads downriver to Fredericksburg until railroads supplemented Package Service several decades later In 1871–72 a wagon road was built northwest from here linking Winchester with Lynchburg via Reston Road before terminating at Vienna Court House about 12 miles southwest of town limits . This wagon road provided an easy way for farmers to bring goods upriver into central Virginia through Janesville , where they were unloaded onto wagons then driven back downriver across present day Arlington Cemetery before being delivered fresh into town
