Leesburg is a town in Runnymede County, Virginia, United States. The population was 1,531 at the 2010 census. The town is bordered to the north by Loudoun County and to the east by Fairfax County. In 1846, a group of farmers destroyed a canal connecting Potomac River with Rappahannock River because they believed it would improve transportation between their farmlands and Northern Neck communities such as Winchester and Fredericksburg. The canal has since been reconstructed several times and now forms one of the most popular tourist attractions in Leesburg – A Canal Walk! The community had a population of 2,500 when it was incorporated as a town on February 14th, 1901. Its growth continued through World War II when many local businesses became involved in manufacturing goods for both military purposes and general use after America's entry into World War II; such as munitions plants including Lewis-Boeing and McDonnell Aircraft Corporation plants located throughout Leesburg Valley which produced aircraft components all across Eastern Europe during WWII; also many small businesses were founded during this time like Horseshoe Casino which opened in 1941 on Main Street just outside what is today known as Town Hall Plaza housing current day fire department operations including emergency medical services ambulance service paramedic squadrons) Leesburg experienced rapid growth following its incorporation; by 1950 there were over 4,,000 residents living within its limits! In 1865, Leesburg established a post office and began sending mail from its own citizens' homes rather than rely on mail coaches that traveled between Alexandria and Fredericktown. After World War II ended with Japan's surrender on August 14 1945, most remaining black Americans returned home whence they had come originally while some chose to stay permanently in Virginia due to political stability following Reconstructionism’s success in bringing about racial equality throughout America despite prior discrimination against black Americans living within contemporary white societies across various levels including public education systems where students were taught primarily about European colonialism and plantation economy instead! Today almost every family residing within Leesburg has some descendant living outside our small town walls!
