The Fauquier and King Philip cultures were dominant in Leesburg during the early colonial period. English colonists arrived in 1607 and established a trading post here. By 1710, Leesburg had an estimated population of 100 people and was known as "the most important community in England's colony." In 1728, John Eager Pontiac created a new county including present day Prince William County and named it for his friend James Leesborough who had died four years earlier in America. On July 4, 1775, when George Washington was inaugurated as the first President of the United States, he stopped at Leesburg on his way back from Mount Vernon to Fredericksburg. In 1857, Pinchback Farms was surveyed for Ulysses S. Grant’s expanding army during the Mexican-American War and became one of Fairfax County’s largest plantation holdings after General Grant’s victory at Palo Alto Bridge. The Grants sold off many acres of Pinchback Farm land over time until 1985 when it reverted to public ownership under Congress’ Civil Rights Act Amendments program (42 USC § 2000e). LeesburgBluegrass music started emerging around 1970 while some locals still played traditional bluegrass ballads like “Old Dominion Rag” or “The Blue Grass Boys” while others started playing rockabilly style songs called “Hillbilly Rockit” which quickly caught on with locals mostly working class white men who were drawn to its rebellious energy mixed with lyrics about hard work and country life that contrasted sharply with their everyday lives back home in Loudoun County Va.. There has always been an element of local flavor even if not all live Local Music events take place within town limits anymore...
