The Hopewell Gun Case Company was founded in 1892 by John W. Hopewell and his partner, George C. Smith. The company manufactured a wide variety of firearms including revolvers, pistols, shotguns, rifles and armor-piercing shells. In 1922 the company merged with the Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester Brands Incorporated. The company discontinued manufacturing firearms in 1970 but continued to produce ammunition and other products under the Winchester name until 1992. The business began as a small family-owned concern that manufactured revolvers and pistols for local law enforcement organizations in the early 1890s. By 1922, Hopewell Guns had become one of the leading manufacturers of firearms in America; its products were sold both through retail stores and through licensed gun dealers across the United States. In 1924 John W. Hopewell passed away at age 72 years old after a long career as an entrepreneur and manufacturer of handguns for American citizens throughout America. His son John W., Jr., succeeded him as owner and president ofHopewellGunCaseCompany following his father's death; he would continue to lead Hopkinsville Gun Manufacturing into the future until his retirement in 1990. During World War II,Hopewell Gun Cases produced munitions for U2S (the Allied air Force) bombers flying over Germany; these guns were fitted with machineguns that fired projectiles up to 25 feet wide which could cause severe damage to German aircraft engine cowlings or wings! From 1942-1945 Hopkinsville Gun Manufacturing produced weapons for both military forces throughout North Africa and Europe during World War II; this included production of rifles (the M1 Garand), shotguns ( Model 1902 pump shotgun), pistols ( Colt Officer’s Pistol modelFeeder), grenades ( Vickers machinegun grenade launcher) and rounds for various types of weapons such as sniper rifles (.30 caliber Browning Automatic Rifle).

Hopewell is a town in Prince Edward County, Virginia, United States. The population was 538 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lynchburg metropolitan area. The name "Hopewell" is derived from the Powhatan word Ḥopiweh (Hupa), meaning "place where heaps of corn are found." The first permanent white settlement in what became Hopewell came about in 1724 when Captain James Cook discovered and mapped the region around present-day Hopewell and its environs. One of Cook's assistants, John Smith, reported finding large quantities of corn on several occasions near his landing site on Scoggins Creek. By 1730, more than sixty men were living in and around Hopewell; many had come from England to work on the British colony under Governor William Byrd. In 1735–36 local farmers formed a subscription club to purchase an estate called Mount Vernon from George Washington for $2,000 (). When Washington learned of this investment, he ordered that all members be banished without pay until they paid their debt with interest (). In 1751 Colonel James Robertson built a sawmill on Wills Creek which soon became an important cash crop for the community. Smallpox hit Hopewell hard in 1753–54 followed by drought that destroyed crops and caused widespread famines throughout Prince Edward County during that year. A group of settlers led by Reverend Samuel Jones purchased 1,500 acres (500 ha) northeast of town along Long Branch Run as a new hunting ground for white deer and other game animals during this time period; it later became known as Bearskin Heights Park. When Revolutionary War armies invaded Virginia in April 1861, local residents quickly rose against British rule; some fought against the English while others took up arms against their own government. On May 9th 1861 Confederate General Robert Ewell arrived at Junction Gap Bridge over Shenandoah River with orders to march into Fairfax County to seize control of Richmond City (). As events unfolded leading up to Ewell's arrival, most people within Hopewell chose sides: many men enlisted or volunteered for Confederate service; while women cooked food and made bedding for Union soldiers at home., few ventured outside to fight or loot supplies left behind by retreating British troops.; however victimless skirmishes continued unabated throughout much of Fairfax County until late July when Confederates forced open Preble Gates Bridge over Rappahannock River resulting in heavy casualties on both sides;; following these engagements nearly two thousand civilian casualties were inflicted upon Union forces before Federal troops regained control beginning August 12th 1861 On October 14th 1861 Confederate General Jubal Early arrived at Fort Monroe en route to Petersburg (); early November Confederate General Robert Ewell crossed Broadpike River at Mechanicsville then marched through Loudoun County towards Fredericktown (), eventually reaching Alexandria () just prior to US Army’s entering Northern Virginia . At approximately 11pm Eastern Time on November 18th 1861 President Abraham Lincoln received intelligence reports indicating that Major General Ulysses S Grant was closing Inwood Hill Road east of Fredericksburg (), so he ordered MajorGeneral Ulysses S Grant’s Headquarters staff including Lieutenant Colonel Henry Halleck commanding Third Corps (III Corps) establishemented themselves northward along Laurel Hill Road northwest corner Fort Myer Cemetery thence across Chickamauga Creek bridge Manning Streetbridge [now Old Capitol Street] northeast corner Deep Bottom Church thence down deepbottom creek road Northwest corner Deep Bottom Church cemetery []], so I directed Maj Gen Halleck not only join him there but also take command'of First Brigade Second Division Cavalry Field Artillery Brigades...Ninth Corps...First Maryland Infantry Regiment]. Affairs having reached such headlong stage I deemed it necessary even though doing so would involve great personal risk given recent war developments’ . This order placed MajGen Halleck immediately between Grant’s army campground & fortifications at Manassas Junction where he remained until relieved by Rear Admiral Porter after three days operations [] ]. Aftermath: “A posse consisting principally citizens menaced Mrs Alexander “Hoppy” Craddock who resided about four miles east side her house & two negro children she has been tenanting since early spring next past year (& upwards thereof) being now within rebel lines out West Side her property lay within range either capturing or driving her out—not one soul durst enter upon it except militaryy authorized person[]; total loss suffered done damage worth hundreds if not thousands only few houses damaged viz hers Stonington Rd [Old Courthouse Road] Triplets Evans House 3 stores 2 lots low water Markham Dr [Now Middle Street] 2 lots high water Greeneville Rd [Greeneville Avenue]1 lot rockin place 3 store Tavern Williams ½ lot Surveyor Swindells building 1 mill house his daughter lodged with me lately &c etc etc etc)."

Hopewell is a small town located in Wise County, Virginia. The population was 1,515 at the 2010 census. Hopewell was founded in 1778 by members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. It became an independent settlement in 1819 and had a post office from 1824 to 1850. The town grew rapidly after the opening of the Potomac River Railroad in 1854, and by 1870 it had over 3,000 residents. In 1908, Hopewell became part of the newly created Loudoun County and lost its status as an independent community. In 1951, it merged with Fairfax County to form Fairfax County, Virginia. In the early 1800s, Hopewell was one of the most important Indian villages in Virginia. The village was located on the eastern bank of the James River between Williamsburg and Petersburg. The chiefdoms of the Powhatan Confederacy were based at Hopewell, and its residents spoke a dialect of English that was very similar to that spoken by British colonists.
